Mama....move. I can't see the T.V.

Gotta study.

My "soon to be" 4 year old had to translate for me at pool today.....not up on my swimming equipment vocabulary.Bit of a shock.Will have to start studying my Japanese seriously again.

That's me eldest two years ago when she started in "big girls" swimming classes.

This one is for Camille

Mr. K sits beside me at work. I'm very fond of him but it took a long time. He's the General Manager and an avid English speaker. He has no sense of appropriateness or manner when it comes to his English usage so over the last few years he's driven me mental and given me some laughs at the same time.

 

For example, when I was pregnant with Nina he used to ask me every day. "So how is your embryo today?" and then when I got past the 3 month mark he used to ask me "How is the foetus today?" (I normally wouldn't tell people I was pregnant that early but we told Masa's Dad who announced it to all the old boys at work).  It was like he'd swallowed a dictionary before work everyday. He'd correct MY English and argue if I tried to correct his.  Used to drive me nuts but I never said anything, wasn't really worth the hassle. He wouldn't listen anyway.

 

So today he asked me about the intrepid Simon and Camille.  I'd met his wife at the supermarket and mentioned they were coming to Japan. I told him (in English) about their travels and he asked if they were having difficulty travelling through Ecuador. I said no, that Camille spoke (Spanish, among other languages, many other languages) and he said "Aahhh a polyglot." He was thrilled with himself.

I knew the meaning but it was just one of those words that I never really used nor thought about

 

Polyglot: knowing, using or written in more than one language.

 

So it's my word for the day and I take my hat off to Mr. K.
